Hometown Heroes Committee

The Hometown Heroes Committee is a dedicated volunteer body established to oversee the nomination and recognition process for Cheverly’s Hometown Heroes Program. The Committee is comprised of community leaders and representatives from the Town Council and the American Legion Post 108. It is responsible for reviewing all submissions, verifying military service, and ensuring each nomination meets program criteria. Qualified nominations are formally recommended to the Town Council for final approval. The committee coordinates with vendors, manages logistics and helps ensures the program remains true to its purpose: honoring those who served our nation with distinction. Through careful evaluation and community engagement, the committee strives to make sure that each veteran honored reflects the values and pride of the Cheverly community.

Residents nominating a veteran for the Hometown Heroes Program are responsible for the $250 payment associated with the banner. Upon official approval, the applicants will be contacted with detailed instructions on the ordering process and payment submission.

Meetings

The Hometown Heroes Committee meets periodically throughout the year to review new submissions and ensure each nominee meets the program’s criteria. During these meetings, the committee verifies military service, discusses application completeness, and votes on recommendations to present to the Town Council for final approval. Meeting frequency is based on the volume of nominations received.
